The Smithfield S Suspension Lamp, designed by Jasper Morrison. PL57

Jasper Morrison was born in London in 1959, and graduated in Design at Kingston Polytechnic Design School, London (1979-82 BA (Des.)) and The Royal College of Art for Postgraduate studies (1982-85 MA (Des.) RCA). In 1984 he studied at Berlin’s HdK on a Scholarship. In 1986 he set up an Office for Design in London. Today Jasper Morrison Ltd. consists of three design offices, a main office in London and two branch offices: one in Paris (opened 2002) and one in Tokyo (opened 2007). Services offered by Jasper Morrison Ltd. are wide ranging, from furniture to tableware and kitchen products, to lighting, electronics and appliance design, designs for public space and more recently watches, clocks & shoes.

The Smithfield S Suspension Lamp was designed in the year 2009 by London-based designer Jasper Morrison for the Italian lighting manufacturer Flos. Morrison stands for minimal, reduced shapes and design. Following these principals he also created this timelessly beautiful suspension lamp Smithfield S. The result is impressive! Although quite new to the collection, the Smithfield S is one of the most precious, shapely suspension lamps Flos can offer. Smithfield S is a pendant lamp that emits direct downward lighting and creates a comfortable light atmosphere. It is the born dining room lamp!

Designers of hospitality environments also use modern lighting solutions to enhance the unique architecture of buildings. Bold pendants, like Jasper Morrison's Smithfield lights, draw the eye upwards to accentuate dramatically high ceilings. Repeatable solutions are particularly effective in restaurant and hotel lighting, since they create the opportunity to unify a design aesthetic while sufficiently meeting the lighting demands of larger spaces.
